Marginea Ceramic, the blue of Voronet, Stephen the Great’s grave from Putna, the treasure of the Petru Rares’s lady hidden beneath the Lady Stones, the tipical rooftops of the houses, the buns and the strips from Straja, create a part of the story of Bucovina.
Bucovina means more than a border. He is a spirit who lives for centuries and is not about to stop. When you get here, stop, close your eyes and feel, for the Phagai Country will offer you more than you can see.
Price is per person and is expressed in euro (EUR).
You will meet with your guide and enjoy a one day tour in Bucovina, home to one of the world’s greatest art treasures: the Painted Monasteries, known in the UNESCO patrimony as the Churches of Moldavia, included since 1993.
We will start our tour with a visit to Romania’s most renowned monastery: Voronet, a jewel of the UNESCO northern heritage, also named the "Sistine Chapel of the East" for the fresco of "The Last Judgment" which was painted with the famous "Blue”’ pigment.
Our next stop will be at Moldovita monastery, an architectural masterpiece in the Byzantine style. Surrounded by the Ciumarne Mountains and the Obcina Hill, Moldovita is one of the oldest monastic settlements with a valuable history, one of the old Moldovian art jewels, listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The last visit for the day will be at Marginea, a famous folk art center, best known for the black ceramics that are made here. You will witness the craft of molding clay, according to a technique unique in the world.
The pottery in Marginea appeared around 1500 (although archaeologists have discovered pieces of pottery - scraps - dating from the Neolithic) as a necessity for people to store food in pots.
Afterward, you will be transferred back to Iasi.
